Seiko is the Japanese word for "exquisite," "minute," or "success," and an apt name it is. The first watches produced under the Seiko name went live in 1924 and by 1938 the demand for them pushed yearly production to over one million. Over the years they've introduced many innovations: the world's first quartz watch, the "Astron" in 1969, the world's first LCD quartz watch with six digit display in 1973, and the world's first "intelligent" analog quartz watch with alarm and timer function in 1988. They acted as the Official Timer of the Olympic Games in Tokyo, Sapporo, Barcelona, Lillihammer, and Nagano. Today their exquisite and memorable designs are evidence of the truth behind their slogan: It's Your Watch That Tells Most About Who You Are. |
